Underwriting Changes On Vaping And E-Cigarettes

One of our top rated carriers who has long considered e-cigarettes and nicotine vaping under their “Non Smoker” guidelines has very recently changed their stance on e-cigarette users.

This change in underwriting stems from the newly publicized warnings regarding vaping and the links to recent deaths and illnesses.

Beginning 10/21/19, this carrier will start rating e-cigarettes and vaping at SMOKER rates. Applications submitted prior to this date would still be considered at Non-Smoker rates.

Other types of tobacco use – such as cigars, chewing tobacco, nicotine gum and snuff – could still be considered at non-smoker rates with this carrier provided there has been no use of cigarettes (traditional or electronic/vaping) in the past 12 months.
